VUARNET Takes Inspiration From Iconic Z-Boys Skate Crew With “Dogtown” Capsule

Vuarnet Dogtown

Following the highly coveted sunglasses restock of the Vuarnet x Noah collaboration recently, French eyewear brand Vuarnet drops its a Summer 2021 capsule called “Dogtown.”

Finding inspiration from the 1970’s Z-Boys skateboarding crew from the “Dogtown” area of Santa Monica, California, Vuarnet found early footage of the crew wearing original Vuarnet shades. From this footage, the Vuarnet Dogtown capsule was born; a limited-edition eyewear and clothing collection and special tribute to the iconic skateboarding crew.

Vuarnet’s origin is from the mountains but the Vuarnet soul is in California – co-founder and French Downhill Skiing pioneer, Jean Vuarnet, won gold at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, California – while there, he wore what became the first Vuarnet sunglass model and made the brand a global success.

For the Dogtown capsule, Vuarnet collaborated with On Y Va, a crew of skateboarders, surfers, and artists from Biarritz, France, to create their very own “French California.” This young French crew redesigned Vuarnet’s iconic logo with the 70’s Z-Boys era and subculture in mind.

The capsule features a limited run of hoodies and GOTS certified organic cotton t-shirts with On Y Va’s logo redesign alongside 100 pairs of Dogtown sunglasses in a dark blue colorway, each with its own unique serial number. Made of bio-acetate, the shape and layers are reminiscent of skateboard designs from the 70’s and fitted with Vuarnet’s unparalleled, high-tech Greylynx mineral glass lenses that are 100% natural and 100% recyclable.

The Vuarnet Summer 2021 “Dogtown” capsule is available now at the brand’s online store.
