Electronic bands have made their impact on pop music over the years. From Daft Punk and Depeche Mode to Marshmello and Skrillex, electronic music has infiltrated radio airwaves and packed dance floors for years. This is the arena celebrity DJ Brody Jenner and his friends — Adam O’Rourke, Savi and Loren — are entering with their newly announced band AHZ.
On Thursday (May 30), AHZ premiered their debut single “Bad Decisions” via Billboard Dance, who describes the song as “pop-punk sneer and trudging metal in its DNA”, while the band themselves call their music “truly genre bending.”
“We love so many different kinds of music that what we ended up making is truly genre bending. We want this new generation to feel some of what we felt going to rock concerts growing up and hope to do that with our live show,” AHZ told Billboard.
If you listen to the song, it’s more than just dance music. AHZ also tells a story about learning from their mistakes… the hard way.
“I’ve always learned more from scars than stories told,” O’Rourke told Billboard. “In life, we can find ourselves jumping into the same fire over and over again with a reckless optimism that whispers in our ear, somehow, some way, this time we won’t be burned. It’s a fundamental idiosyncrasy of human nature. At a certain point, I had to embrace that and say “f*ck it, this is who I am, flaws and all, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
AHZ’s “Bad Decisions” officially drops Friday (May 31), but you can stream it now below.
