“Atlanta” rapper 21 Savage has been arrested in by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during a targeted operation on charges that the Grammy-nominated artist is in the United States illegally, and is, in fact, British.
An ICE official told CNN on Sunday that, “[21 Savage’s] whole public persona is false. He actually came to the U.S. from the U.K. as a teen and overstayed his visa.”
How many questions do we have? A lot.
ICE alleges that 21 Savage, real name Shayaabin Abraham-Joseph, entered the US legally in 2005 (when he was a minor) and never left.
The situation is still unfolding, but the bombshell allegations against 21 Savage are made even stranger by the fact that much of the rapper’s persona and content is derived from his upbringing on the mean streets of Atlanta — contradictory to the narrative the Feds are presenting.
2019 is still young, but this is easily the biggest plot twist so far.
