Matt Barnes of NBA fame was awarded the sole legal and physical custody of his ten-year-old twin sons, Carter and Isaiah from his ex-wife, Gloria Govan. Govan and Barnes started dating in 2006, had their sons in 2008, got married in 2012 and divorced in 2014 (and it was MESSY.) The couple also appeared on VH1’s Basketball Wives and Basketball Wives: LA.
It gets a bit sketchy though, as Govan started dating Barnes’ ex-teammate, Derek Fisher, (who was still married at the time) before her divorce was final, which strained the friendship between the two men. Fisher and Govan got engaged this past April.
On August 31st, Govan got into a heated altercation with Barnes, when Govan reportedly went against their child custody agreement and picked up the twins from school instead of Barnes. Barnes directed his sons into his car, Govan followed, attempting to block his car, which prompted a call to the police. When officers got there, Barnes was able to prove it was his weekend with the boys and Govan was arrested for child endangerment and violating a court order. Barnes ended up getting a restraining order after the incident and was eventually awarded sole legal and physical custody. That means all decisions about all things concerning his kids are his alone to make.
Govan has been granted visitation which entails dinner with her sons on Wednesdays and every other weekend. She has been ordered to take 26 anger management and ten parenting classes, however she been quiet about the court proceedings, although Barnes was rightfully overjoyed with the decision.
