It only took Jerry Lorenzo a little more than six years to make his streetwear imprint, Fear of God, one of the most revered and elite apparel companies in the culture. In less than a decade, Lorenzo has collaborated with the likes of both VANS and Nike on multiple occasions. Not to mention, the brand has been curating and manufacturing their own sneakers with large corporation backing. Now, Lorenzo and Nike have officially unveiled a sneaker that has been circulating on the internet for months. Without further introduction, check out the Jerry Lorenzo x Nike Fear of God 1.
The Sneakerhead community has been aware of this silhouette for some time now. Prior to the unveiling of the Nike Fear of God 1, the sneaker has most recently popped up on the foot of Houston Rockets forward, PJ Tucker. Now, we’re getting a detailed look and official release information from the collaborative partners.
Lorenzo Speaks on the Nike Fear of God 1
Initially, the sneaker was assumed to be a lifestyle silhouette without performance capabilities; apparently, this sneaker will be able to serve its wearer’s athletic necessities as well. The Nike Fear of God 1 will come in two different mid-cut material bases, a white leather base and waterproof textile canvas base. A synthetic, angular medial and lateral web design acts as a lacing system and ankle support exposing nylon/leather vamps, while minimized Nike branding can be found on the lateral side of the sneaker. A thick midsole provides the silhouette with cushioning and a semi-transparent heel feature closes out the sneaker.
Defined tech spec sheets have yet to be revealed to the general public, however with Lorenzo working closely with Leo Chang, senior footwear design director at Nike Basketball, we’re sure the sneaker is equipped with today’s most revered Nike patented technology. Overall, the silhouette takes on the aesthetic of a crepe boot in conjunction with the tech of a performance sneaker. This what Jerry Lorenzo had to say about his latest Nike collaboration.
“It is a shoe that should only be judged by the emotion it gives the kid when he first sees it — however it makes him feel. In my youth…growing up in the ’80s and finishing high school in the ’90s, contrary to what’s happening now, it was our superstar athletes and our pro athletes that were informing the way that we wore our street clothes. These athletes, like Agassi and Jordan, were at the top of their game and what they wore didn’t compromise on design or beauty.”
Is the Jerry Lorenzo x Nike Fear of God a Must Cop?
Come December 15, the Jerry Lorenzo x Nike Fear of God 1 will be available for purchase. Unfortunately, official pricing information has yet to be revealed. The Nike Fear of God 1 could be one the year’s most anticipated sneaker releases.
