BAPE is currently celebrating their 25th anniversary as a staple in the fashion industry. The brand founded by the notorious Nigo [Tomoaki Nagao] has been able to shift the aesthetic of streetwear fashion in only a quarter of a century. From unforgettable animated mascots and the unique, fluid camouflage print, A Bathing Ape has become a dominant presence in streetwear culture.
Now, despite parting ways with Nigo in 2013, the brand is back and stronger than ever and celebrating their 25th year on the scene. And there’s no better way to celebrate than with some dope collabs. This time around, the Japanese clothing company is teaming up with the NBA for this limited edition BAPE x NBA Jersey Collection.
The BAPE x NBA Jersey Collection employs some recognizable NBA throwbacks as a base for their designs; A Bathing Ape’s signature camo ornamentation can be found throughout each jersey, with the highly popularized Ape logo head embroidered on each jersey and replacing the numbers on the sportswear. The jerseys also dawn Hardwood Classics, NBA, and BAPE patches located at the lower left, frontal trim of the pieces. The teams included in the capsule collection include the Golden State Warriors, the Chicago Bulls, the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and more.

With influencers like Don C curating their own sportswear designs utilizing the NBA as a muse, there’s no reason why more brands shouldn’t step into the same lane. As participants and investors in the culture, there is no reason why our favorite designers shouldn’t be able to curate merchandise for the masses. And even though BAPE and Nigo might have gone their separate ways five years ago, the brand still has a major influence on today’s streetwear scene.
Unfortunately, the brand has yet to reveal official release details for the BAPE x NBA Jersey Collection. But, luckily, this builds up the anticipation for the limited release and we got the chance to get our hands on some cop worthy pieces just in time for the upcoming NBA season.
