This Summer, HBO’s hit series Insecure, from writer and creator Issa Rae, returns for its third season, and what better way to kick-off this southern Cali-based show than a festival? Luckily, BallerStatus got a chance to experience the outdoor festivities at the first-ever Insecure Fest, as well as a first look screening at the season premiere, and we’re ready to dish about all the juicy deets.

On Saturday (July 21), HBO shut down the newly-constructed Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles and turned the soccer stadium into an epic carnival-themed event, featuring classic rides and games like an über-tall super slide and a life sized version of Connect Four. The fest, hosted by the hilarious Gia Peppers, kept partygoers on their feet courtesy of DJ Jasmine Solano, who offered a supreme selection of hip-hop and R&B cuts.

As press, artists, and fans of the show poured into the arena to explore the party grounds, many snapped pics at one of several IG-worthy, decked-out photo stations. The long stretched yellow “INSECURE” sign in the center of the arena made for a popular selfie cite.

Summer has always been deemed prime time for festivals, particularly ones with mouth-watering foods enjoyed outdoors, and Insecure Fest was no exception. Vendors stationed throughout the carnival-clad grounds offered a variety of delicious food and beverage options, so whether it was a snow cone and cotton candy that one craved, or a good old-fashioned Po’ Boy and beer, there was something for everyone. While sipping a custom show-themed alcoholic beverage, attendees racked up gaming tickets redeemable for gifts at the prize booth.

A lineup of musical guests performed throughout the day, including Saweetie, Rico Nasty, Aminé, and Jorja Smith. The star-studded red carpet event saw a host of “Insecure” cast members like Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Y’lan Noel, Sarunas Jackson, executive producer Prentice Penny and many more. Additional special red carpet guests also in attendance were Niecy Nash, Karrueche Tran, Victor Cruz, Angela Simmons, BJ the Chicago Kid, Siya, and Bridget Kelly.

As the sun began to set on L.A.’s Banc of California Stadium, guests were guided to a bench and bleacher section of the arena for a special world premiere viewing of season 3 episode 1 titled “Better-Like.” We can’t spill too many of the beans, but let’s just say it starts off with a bang …and doesn’t stop there! In true “Insecure” fashion, the soundtrack to the episode was lit as usual, featuring an eclectic mix of upcoming musical artists.

Rounding out the evening was an electric 30-minute set from none other than southern-trapper 2 Chainz. The recording artist graced the stage fully-charged, and performed an array of hits, as well as debuted his new single featuring Drake and Migos from his upcoming project Rap or Go to the League. If there’s one thing we’ll say about HBO it’s that they know how to throw one hell of a party!
