After teaming up with New York spitter Meyhem Lauren for their collaborative effort Gems From The Equinox last fall, legendary producer DJ Muggs is prepping his next project, titled Assassination Day.
Dropping via Muggs’ Soul Assassins Records, the concept album will roll out in its entirety via special two-song chapters — the first coming June 29th with mysterious rapper DOOM.
Releasing as individual “chapters”, each of these chapters will be collaborations between Muggs and various emcees. The first chapter finds DOOM delivering his signature flow over Muggs’ menacing project, while he also enlists Freddie Gibbs and Kool G Rap. The first song, which drops today, is “Deathwish” with Gibbs. You can listen to it below.
Muggs’ Soul Assassins camp says Assassination Day will be a thematic album with a vigilante concept where hip-hop takes corruption head-on, with emcees figuratively killing off evildoers in positions of power as the story unfolds.
The second song for the DOOM chapter drops next week. Further details about the album is currently unknown.
Soul Assassins Records will also be releasing a limited vinyl run of 1000 vinyl pressings of the first special project with DOOM and teaming up with the legendary Madlib and his Rappcats site to release a limited run of 300 handmade vinyl copies packaged in 5 unique jackets, screen printed by Hit & Run available here. Soul Assassins will be selling 300 copies which includes colored vinyl packages with Exclusive Kool G Rap Remix “CORONA” by DJ Muggs, and two Unreleased Muggs Instrumentals as a preorder at SoulAssassins.com. In Europe, 300 copies copies will be available via HHV.de.
Finally, Muggs will also host a pop-up event at the Rappcats storefront in Los Angeles on June 30th with Hit and Run screen printing the last 100 records and unique merchandise created for the event.
