Kicking off the 2018 FIFA World Cup, adidas Soccer celebrated a night of street soccer and creative culture in Los Angeles this past week, hosting the latest edition of the Tango League.
During the event, players aged 16-25 battled out to be crowned the Tango MVP, with 19-year-old Melvyn Owen Perez Cortez taking the honors. He will now travel to Moscow, Russia to compete against Tango MVPs from all around the world for a spot in the Tango Squad F.C.
As part of the celebration, adidas showcased the national team jerseys, the official match ball and the X18 cleat — all of which will be worn by players during the FIFA World Cup. Getting a hands-on look at the new fear, we were able to put our creativity to work and customized our own jersey with the help of legendary artist Saber.
During the event we had a chance to talk with Lee Nguyen who is a midfielder for the LAFC, to ask him about the event and his expectations for the upcoming World Cup. Like every soccer fan out there Lee looks forward to watching the World Cup. “It only comes out once every four years. You get together with your friends and family and watch some games. It’s pretty cool” he said. When asked about which match up’s he would like to see, he responded ” It would be great to see Portugal and Argentina. The Messi vs. Ronaldo match- up.” Last but not least, Lee’s final prediction on who will take it all? Brazil.
To close out the night of festivities, rapper Rich The Kid performed a set on the pitch.
