Can Cardi B Sustain Longevity in The Game?
Cardi B quickly rose to fame and has been conquering ever since, but can she remain at the top of the game? With a baby on the way, she'll soon have an overwhelming amount of responsibility on her plate, but I'm not sure anything can stop her momentum. Here's why.
She has a hustler mentality.
It seems like every time we blink, Cardi is releasing a hot new track or topping a new chart. Since her breakout single "Bodak Yellow" took off last summer, she's been making money moves. In just under a year, Cardi released her debut album Invasion of Privacy, topped Billboard on multiple occasions, and has broken a handful of records, including becoming the first woman with five songs in the Top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart simultaneously. Aside from making music, Cardi also took the stage at Coachella, performed on Saturday Night Live!, and became the first ever co-host on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure only a woman about her business could successfully accomplish all of this in such little time.
She remains true to herself.
If there's one thing we know about Cardi, it's that she's not afraid to embrace her roots. No matter how much money she makes, she'll always just be a girl from the Bronx. She reps Fashion Nova (an affordable trendy clothing brand) over any designer brand, so much so that she now has her own Fashion Nova clothing line. Her New York attitude, mixed with her creative slang, gives her the dominant personality she has today, and it's even finding its way in to our own vocabulary -- (i.e. "okuurt"). She does not come to play when haters try to come for her, and she'll make sure to put them in their place; just ask Azealia Banks.
Let's not forget about her days as a stripper. Cardi embraces her come up and even promotes the lifestyle upon those who try to drag her down for it. In what seems like such a cut-throat industry, her attitude will most definitely carry her far.
Nothing stop her, not even a baby.
When rumors first surfaced of a possible Bartier baby, critics were quick to call out the rapper. People questioned how she could do such a "dumb" thing at the start of her career, and pointed out how much money she would be losing if she was, in fact, pregnant. Well, the rumors were true, but pregnancy was certainly not going to slow her down. Not only did she perform on Saturday Night Live! with a full-blown bump, but also proved a baby wouldn't stop her twerking when she dropped it low on the Coachella stage. Just when we thought the tiny little human inside of her must be wearing her out, Cardi would take to Instagram to show off her late night studio sessions.
Honestly, if a baby can't stop her, what else can?
While Cardi is currently taking a leave of absence until her baby girl arrives, I'm sure she'll be back to her regularly scheduled money moves shortly after the delivery.
