Diddy is known for his life of excess, from yachts and private jets to mansions and luxury whips. But recently, the hip-hop mogul invested in art… to the tune of $21.1 million.

According to the New York Times, Diddy recently copped a painting by Chicago artist Kerry James Marshall called “Past Times”, which boasts a narrative centered on black experiences.

Sotheby’s sold the painting at auction for over $21 million, but it was unclear who the buyer was at the time. The pricetag is the most ever paid for the work of a living African-American artist.

“I know that this work has found a home in a collection with purpose and an eye toward preserving legacy — that of Sean Combs, and that means a lot,” Marshall’s gallerist and dealer, Jack Shainman, told the NY Times.

Diddy visited Sotheby’s to view the painting and was introduced to Marshall’s work by his friend/art collector Swizz Beatz.

The “Past Times” painting was previously purchased for $25,000 in 1997.

$21 million is just a drop in the hat for Diddy, who has an estimated net worth of around $825 million.
