Cardi B, a.k.a. the Queen of clapbacks, came for Azealia Banks recently, after her rap rival called her out.
Early Friday (May 11), Banks made comments regarding Cardi B during an interview on “The Breakfast Club”, and Cardi was not havin’ it. When asked about her previous criticism on Cardi, she said: “It’s very concerning” to her that “this conversation surrounding black women’s culture” has changed. She then stated, “This caricature of a black woman that black women themselves would never be able to get away with.”
Never one to back down, Cardi responded soon after she caught wind of the interview. “I reread this a couple of times for the Akeelahs and the bees out there!! A woman who constantly finds joy in belittling black women (Beyonce, Rihanna, Skai Jackson, Remy Ma), can’t try and stand for them because it’s convenient,” Cardi wrote on Instagram. “The difference between me and you, I’ve never pretended to be or represent someone I’m not! I’ve made it where I am for being myself and staying true to that. I’m not trying to represent nobody but myself.”
Cardi then hit Banks where it hurt, saying she doesn’t stay true to herself while referencing that Banks previously admitted to bleaching her skin. “You’re not happy in you’re own skin so you think because you can’t figure your sh*t out that you can create confusion for me,” Cardi wrote. “I’ve never dismissed my heritage or my culture…”
Following the response, Banks made sure to have the last word, clapping back in a now-deleted Instagram post. “Sis, give it up,” she wrote.
The soon-to-be mommy must have realized all of the drama was too much, because soon after, she deleted her Instagram account.
