The ongoing controversy that Kanye West has engulfed himself in, surrounding his vocal support of Donald Trump and far-right activist Candace Owen, has struck a chord with many of his fellow musicians as well as fans all across the globe. Now, legendary director Spike Lee has decided to chime in on the matter.

He recently told The Hollywood Reporter this about Ye’s public support of Trump: “Well you have to go to [my] Instagram for the response but ... I say I pray for my brother. I pray for my brother. I pray for him."

After appearing on TMZ Live last week and shocked viewers when he said that “slavery was a choice,” Spike Lee took to Instagram to deliver another, more detailed and urgent message to the once-favorite artist.

“SLAVERY… A CHOICE??? My Brother, OUR Ancestors Did Not Choose To Be Stolen From Mother Africa. OUR Ancestors Did Not Choose To Be Ripped Of Our Religion, Language, Culture,” he wrote. “I Would Not Be Surprised If OUR Ancestors Are Not Pleased With Your Uneducated Comments. P.S. Your Retraction Does Not Undue The Harm You Cause To Our Beloved ANCESTORS. WAKE UP.”

As the Kanye West backlash continues, chances are, many more of Ye’s peers will be addressing him about some of his recently exposed “free thoughts.”
