After Drake took her iconic “Ex-Factor” record, reworked it, and created the blazing summer anthe, “Nice For What,”, Lauryn Hill returned the favor with a remix of it.
On Tuesday (May 1) at the Apollo Theater in New York, Ms. L Boogie threw down with a twist to “Nice for What.”
Beginning with the original “Ex-Factor,” Hill then transitioned into “Nice for What,” adding a reworked instrumental and reminded everyone exactly who the original was. “See this is ‘Ex-Factor,’ he took the sample / My sh*t is classic, here’s an example / Of how we nice’d it up on this rhythm / So many want to, spice it up on this rhythm,” Hill rapped.
Showing no signs of slowing down, Lauryn showed fans she still has what it takes to rock any and every mic. “So stop acting like you didn’t grow up singing my songs / I swooped down on this b***h like I had wings on my arms / Transcendent, speak truth like I wrote the amendments / Sorry if you’re offended, it’s the truth that remains,” she continued.
Just as Ms. Hill stated, so many actually do want to spice it up to her rhythm. While Drake gave the ladies a little something to dance to this summer, Cardi B also did a play on the classic on her “Be Careful” track from her debut, Invasion of Privacy, warning her lover to not to play with her heart.
If you are unfamiliar with the song, “Ex-Factor” is a cut off Hill’s classic album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album.
Prior to this performance, L Boogie announced the 20th Anniversary Tour for the album! The tour kicks off in Virginia Beach on July 5 and will travel through cities such as Las Vegas, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia, San Diego, and more, before wrapping up on Oct. 5.
