Lately, Lupe Fiasco has had some harsh words for a few emcees that he feels are overrated, but it wasn’t until he recently questioned Kendrick Lamar’s talent did the fans decide that it was time to “kick push” the Chicago rapper’s ass out of here.
The damaging statement from Lupe was that “K-Dot is not a top tier lyricist.” After much backlash, he seems to have had a change of heart, and decided to offer further information on why he misspoke.
During a recent Instagram Live session, which was re-posted to YouTube on March 20, Lupe offered an apology for criticizing Kung Fu Kenny’s talent. He initiates his attempts to make amends by explaining that it was Lamar’s “Control” verse that triggered his initial response. Afterwards, the artist issued an apology and made a vow to never talk about Kendrick’s career again.
“Maybe I should have just left it alone. Even though my impetus was the ‘Control’ verse,” Lupe said. “I mean, you put yourself out there like that. So, you opened yourself up to critique, but even that still, I should have just shut my f*cking mouth. I apologize for even engaging and talking about n*ggas’ careers, I’ll never do that sh*t again.”
While that may close the chapter on the one-sided beef involving the two acts, later on in the video, Lupe confirmed that his longtime feud with Kid Cudi is still going strong.
“F*ck Cudi. Forever,” he said. “That n*gga will never get an apology from me. F*ck that bitch.”
The original comments that sparked a debate among hip-hop fans occurred on Twitter after Lupe offered his unfiltered opinions about the TDE rapper. The tweets have since been deleted, but continue to live on in debates all across the genre. “I’ll put it to you like this. K. Dot is not a top tier lyricist to me and my standards when it comes to punchlines and bars,” he originally wrote. “His overall lyrics are good, his stories phenomenal, but punchline entendre lyrically I don’t see it.”
