Last Thursday (March 22), Sprayground’s founder and creative director, David Ben-David, was arrested in Bogotá, Colombia for disorderly conduct, after he was caught smoking weed.
The brand posted photos of the arrest on their Instagram account, stating “BAGS TOO HOT”, along with the hashtag #freeDBD. It shows Ben-David being handcuffed and being escorted by local law enforcement.
“We were freaking out and thought he was going to be in there for a long time because we didn’t speak Spanish very well. We had no idea what was going to happen to him,” a Sprayground rep tells BallerStatus.
Unaware of the laws on marijuana in Colombia, Sprayground’s creative team traveled down to South America on a business to possibly bring their bags and accessories to Colombia. “We were invited to Colombia to meet with different distributions and brands to potentially collaborate with and different media interviews on Sprayground coming to Colombia,” the founder said.
Before being allowed to leave the country, Ben-David was held in custody for two days and released on Saturday (March 24). He landed in Los Angeles just in time for the celebration of the recently launched, limited-edition Saweetie Shark backpack. Ironically, as seen in the photo below, he’s rocking a hoodie with a mugshot of infamous Colombia drug lord Pablo Escobar.
