The 2018 CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Fashion Awards, widely known as “the Academy Awards of Fashion,” will have it’s first female host in nearly a decade.
Issa Rae, creator and co-star of Insecure, announced in a tweet on Monday (Mar. 5) that she will be hosting the award show on June 4. “So excited to announce that I will be hosting the 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards on June 4th!” she wrote. “Mark your calendars!”
President and CEO of the Council, Steven Kolb, said in a statement, “Issa Rae is leading a new generation of performers who use their voice and humor to discuss social topics in a way that is relatable and poignant.”
Issa is following in the footsteps of a list of well-known comedic TV personalities such as Seth Myers, Joel McHale, and James Corden. The last woman to host the award show was Tracy Ullman in 2009.
Aside from having its first female host in nearly a decade, the CFDA Award Show will be changing its location for the first time from Manhattan to Brooklyn.
The list of nominees will not be released until March 15, but we can expect to see some famous designers such as Calvin Klein, Coach, and Balenciaga.
