Forbes dropped its annual “Forbes Five” list this week, ranking hip-hop’s wealthiest artists. Usually, it doesn’t change, as Diddy reigns supreme year after year.
This year, Jay-Z overtakes Diddy as hip-hop’s wealthiest, as both race to become the first billionaire within the genre.
Jay’s net worth jumped from $810 million to $900 million over the past year to take the throne, thanks to the rise in value of his interests in Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Ussé cognac, as well as his ownership stakes in the Roc Nation empire and TIDAL streaming service.
Diddy’s net worth increased… slightly, up $5 million, thanks to growth from his DeLeon tequila and Diageo investments.
The rest of the Forbes Five includes: Dr. Dre, Drake and Eminem. See the breakdown below.
1. Jay-Z – $900 million.
2. Diddy – $825 million.
3. Dr. Dre – $770 million.
4. Drake – $100 million.
4. Eminem – $100 million.
