Sean Wotherspoon’s Air Max 97/1 hybrid has a release date: Air Max Day 2018.
Last year, for the 30th anniversary of the Air Max 1, 12 creatives from all over the world — dubbed “Revolutionairs” — were invited to Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, where they were tasked to help re-imagine Nike Air Max styles. After a fan vote, the shoe with the most votes would have his or her Nike Air model released. The winner of the 2017 “Vote Forward” campaign was Sean Wotherspoon.
With Air Max Day just around the corner (March 26), Air Max enthusiasts will be happy to hear that Wotherspoon’s Air Max 97/1 is finally getting its global release. Previous drops included exclusive cops at Virginia’s Need Supply and Los Angeles’ Undefeated last November.
The Wotherspoon x Air Max 97/1 gets its name from its unique design. The sneaker is a hybrid of the Air Max 97 and Air Max 1. Inspired by vintage Nike hats from the ’80s, the shoe features a corduroy finish, with denim heel overlay accents representing roots in Virginia and Los Angeles.
The release also includes interchangeable Velcro tongue tabs that give consumers the option to fashion their pair with a Nike Swoosh logo or a wave. Each pair comes with different shoelace options: a yellow pair with gold and silver lace tips.
The Sean Wotherspoon x Nike Air Max 97/1 is set to release on this year’s Air Max Day, March 26.
