The annual Roots Picnic returns to the band’s hometown of Philadelphia on June 2nd for its 11th year, and the lineup for the show is looking iconic as usual.
Actor/comedian Dave Chappelle has been announced as the event’s host, while headlining acts include Lil Uzi Vert, Rapsody, The Diplomats, 2 Chainz, 6LACK, Goldlink and Brandy.
In addition to a slew of live performances, the fest — held on Philly’s Festival Pier — will include a podcast stage, a lifestyle stage complete with live Madden and NBA 2K videogame tournaments, and a series of panels.
Concert goers will be in for a treat, as Black Thought and J. Period’s live mixtape is set to make a return to the main stage, alongside special guests Jadakiss and Fabolous, while DJ Drama has been drafted to present a surprise-filled Gangsta Grillz-centered set.
“It’s always a challenge every year to curate the lineup for the Picnic,” The Roots’ Questlove and Black Thought told Billboard in a joint statement. “We are especially excited this year to bring the jam session hosted by our good friend Dave Chappelle to Philly this year. We have done jam sessions with Dave many times over the past decade, most recently at Radio City Music Hall, but never in the festival environment. We love that we are able to bring this great experience to our hometown of Philly.”
