Rising Sacramento Mozzy officially signed a new partnership with indie label Empire, while also announcing two new projects.
The rapper is coming off a breakout year, due to the success of his solo project, 1 Up Top Ahk. 2018 is already off to a fast start too. Kendrick Lamar shouted him out during his Rap Album of the Year speech at the Grammys, and is also featured on the Black Panther soundtrack.
Empire aligns with Mozzy Records for upcoming releases of his Spiritual Conversations EP in March, followed by the full-length album, Gangland Landlord.
“Empire gave me a platform to not only make money but control my label and have creative freedom,” says Mozzy. “I could have signed to whomever but Ghazi and Nima gave me an opportunity early on. I personally know my worth and I know Empire does also.”
Mozzy first linked with Empire in 2015, with the release of the rapper’s street anthem “Bladadah”. From there, they’ve continued the relationship, which culiminated with the new deal they inked this year.
“It’s truly exciting to work with an artist whose music resonates with me both professionally and personally. When I hear a Mozzy record, it reminds me why I fell in love with rap music,” says Empire CEO Ghazi Shami.
