Venice, Calif.-bred brand BornxRaised links up with Converse for their first collaboration together, resulting in this unique take on the classic Jack Purcell.
BxR co-founder Spanto is inspired by Venice, a place his family has called home for more than 90 years. A true product of the subcultures within the beach town, the city’s impact on him served as the inspiration for the Converse offering.
The Jack Purcell, which debuted in 1933 and has long been the alternative to the Chuck Taylor on the Venice skate scene, is what Spanto grew up wearing.
For the collaboration, he gives the shoe a lustrous hair-on-hide upper in black and camel. Reminiscent of a fresh buzz cut, the sneaker gets a look that is was as dapper as it was street. It also sports a statement-making rubber on the heel, while BxR’s “On The Turf” is spelled out in embroidered cursive on the tongue.
To celebrate the launch of the Converse x BornxRaised Jack Purcell, BornxRaised will launch a two-day pop-up shop on the Venice boardwalk at 1313 Oceanfront Walk, beginning Feb. 2.
“If you position yourself in this one spot on the Venice boardwalk, you can see a mural; it must be about 60 feet. Growing up, it used to be a mural of my dad, who was a blues musician,” Spanto says.
The collection launches globally Feb. 3 at Converse.com and at select retailers.
