When it comes to money, Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos has a whole lot of it. He has so much that he is now the richest person of all-time.
According to Bloomberg’s billionaire tracker, the CEO’s net worth reached $105.1 billion earlier this week, eclipsing the record previously held Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
Bezos’s net worth breaks down like this: the majority comes from his 78.9 million shares of Amazon stock, which climibed 1.4% earlier this week, adding about $1.4 billion to his net worth.
Gates is behind the Amazon.com founder with a net worth of $93.3 billion. However, at the height of the dot-com boom in 1999, Gates was worth over $100 billion, which adjusted for inflation, would be around $148 billion today.
While not confirmed, some historians say 14th century African king Mansa Musa I had massive wealth, which in totals figures comes out to around $400 billion. Also, oil tycoon John D. Rockerfeller is said to have been the first ever billion in modern history, and by the time of his death, estimates place his net worth in the range of US$300 billion to $400 billion USD in adjusted dollars for the late 2000s.
