Since its release last March, the Nintendo Switch has become a runaway hit.
Nintendo announced Thursday morning (Jan. 4) that the Switch has sole more than 4.8 million units in 10 months, making it the fastest-selling home console of all time in the U.S.
In early December, the company said the Nintendo Switch had reached 10 million sales worldwide, and expects to hit the 14 million mark by March.
In addition to its U.S. sales, the console also beat out the PlayStation 2’s impressive sales numbers in Japan. The PS2 currently has the world record for console sales, selling an impressive 155 million units during its lifetime.
If sales continue to be strong for the Switch, it coule reach the top 10 selling consoles of all time in the next few years.
The Switch launched in March 2017, with the critically-acclaimed Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game has since earned numerous game of the year awards for 2017.
Other titles for the Switch include Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Super Mario Odyssey and Doom.
