Is WWE head Vince McMahon getting into professional football?

According to reports, the WWE recently filed details with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission about McMahon selling of 3.34 million shares he held in the company, which comes out to $100 million.

The filing noted that the sale was to “fund a separate entity from the Company, Alpha Entertainment LLC, which Mr. McMahon established to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football.”

The report says that Alpha filed for five trademarks related to the XFL on Dec. 16, according to records with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office, classifying it as a professional football league. It also filed to cover merchandise related to the league.

Additionally, the company filed to trademark “URFL.”

The WWE previously partnered with NBC to launch the original XFL in 2001. Unfortunately, it lasted just one season and both companies lost around $35 million each.
