Whoa! Wu-Tang Clan’s one-off Once Upon a Time in Shaolin and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V albums may end up in possession of the feds.
According to reports, prosecutors asked a federal court in Brooklyn this week to allow the government seizure of Martin Shkreli’s assets, valued at around $7.4 million. Those assets include the $2 million Wu-Tang album the “Pharma Bro” purchased back in 2015, as well as Wayne’s long-delayed Carter V that he claims to have purchased a year ago.
Shkreli’s attorney Benjamin Brafman says he plans to “vigorously oppose the government motion.” “Our position is clear,” he said in a statement. “None of the investors lost any money and Martin did not personally benefit from any of the counts of conviction. Accordingly, forfeiture of any assets is not an appropriate remedy.”
In August, Shkreli was found guilty on securities fraud and conspiracy, after being accused of defrauding hedge fund investors out of more than $11 million between 2009 and 2014.
He’s currently in jail, as he awaits a sentencing. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
