Less than a month after reaching a record of over $7,000, Bitcoin surged over Thanksgiving weekend, hitting a new record hit.
According to CoinDesk’s Bitcoin Price Index, the cryptocurrency hit a record high of $9,033 per bitcoin early Sunday morning (Nov. 25) and nowhas a market cap of more than $150 billion.
2017 has been a huge year for Bitcoin. Valued at $1,000 at the beginning of the year, it is now closing in on the $10,000 mark, which people expect will come in 2018. Bitcoin’s value surpassed $5,000 and $6,000 in October and then rose over $7,000 and $8,000 in November.
According to CNBC, Bitcoin was boosted by investor interest around Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping.
