A rare Jackie Robinson jersey from his historic 1947 rookie season with the Brooklyn Dodgers has sold for $2.05 million at auction.
According to ESPN, the jersey was auctioned off by Heritage Auctions recently and set a record for a jersey from the post-World War II era.
The previous record was $573,600 for a 1955 Sandy Koufax rookie jersey with the Dodgers.
The Robinson jersey is accompanied by a letter from Robinson’s widow, Rachel, saying it is the one brought home by the Hall of Famer at the end of the 1947 season — the year he became the first black player in the majors and earned Rookie of the Year honors.
The record price for a sports memorabilia item is $4.41 million in a 2012 auction for a 1920 Babe Ruth jersey from 1920, his first year with the Yankees.
