It looks like James Franco is joining the X-Men film universe… as Multiple Man.

According to Deadline, FOX has tapped the actor to play the X-Men character Jamie Madrox (aka Multiple Man) in an upcoming film, though details are still scarce.

Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg has been tapped to pen the script.

Part of the X-Men universe, which is controlled by Fox, Multiple Man has the ability to clone himself, which manifested at birth, when a second, identical version of himself appeared after the doctor slapped the infant to get him to breathe. His father moved his family to a remote farm where his son — fitted with a special suit to control his powers designed by X-Men patriarch Professor Xavier — lived quietly until the suit malfunctioned and he began to go crazy.

The character also appeared in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand.

Multiple Man is the latest character to emerge from the X-Men universe.

There’s also the upcoming film The New Mutants, Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix — all due in 2018.
