Petal Crush Aims to Be Brooklyn’s Band of the Future

The new generation of rappers didn't grow up solely on hip-hop. You have guys like Lil Uzi Vert who are heavily influenced by Marilyn Manson... and that's just one example. If you're fans of both genres, there's a number of bubbling rock bands that are making noise that you may want to pay attention to. One of them is Brooklyn-based Petal Crush.

With influences ranging from Nirvana to Iggy Pop, the band sounds like they have been ripped out of rock's golden age... but with a modern take.

They're not with the f*ckery either. They make the music they want to, without a care in the world about what the norm is.

"All our 'rock stars' nowadays post on social media when they are at a Quiznos. I grew fond of rock n roll when I didn't know whether or not Axl Rose was getting head on a helicopter or eating a hero. We need just a little mystery in order to make it work," says Petal Crush's frontman Andy.

"I think people are always dying for something bigger and better. Personally, I don’t care. I am going to write the songs that I like to hear, and if the resulting followers on Instagram don't quite add up, then it's none of my business," he adds.

That's the rock star attitude you see now from today's biggest hip-hop stars. So, if you're curious, you can catch Petal Crush at their upcoming NYC show at Mercury Lounge on October 29th (tickets here), followed by a show at the Bowery Electric on November 15th.
