Former hip-hop mogul Suge Knight is accusing Dr. Dre of hiring a hitman to kill him back in 2015.
In recently filed court documents, via the L.A. Times, Suge makes the claim that Dre paid a man $20,000 to have him killed.
Furthermore, he says a hit man’s presence at a Compton burger stand in January 2015 — the day he ran over two men in his truck, resulting in murder charges — backs up his claims that he acted in self-defense.
In his declaration, which was made public this week, Suge says that during a jailhouse visit in 2016, a private investigator who no longer is working on his case showed him a check for $20,000. It was dated Nov. 16, 2014, and was from Dre’s personal account.
In response to Suge’s claims, Dre’s attorney said the allegations “absurd” and “defamatory.”
Furthermore, Dre’s attorney argued that his banking documents were private and in no way relevant to Knight’s claims of self-defense. L.A. County Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Coen agreed, granting their order to quash a subpoena for the records.
Suge remains jailed, as he awaits trial for the killing of Terry Carter outside Tam’s Burgers in Compton. Footage later surfaced of the incident that shows Knight getting into an altercation with two men — Carter and Cle “Bone” Sloan — and running both over with his truck. Sloan survived.
Suge has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His trial date is set for April 9, 2018. However, Knight will return to court for a pretrial hearing in his murder case on November 14.
