After being portrayed by Angelina Jolie in 2001, Lara Croft returns to the big screen in the upcoming 2018 version, simply titled Tomb Raider. This time around, actress Alicia Vikander will portray the fictional character.
Warner Bros. Pictures offers up a first look at the film, based on the 2013 video game.
For those not familiar, here’s a little backstory. Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now, as a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, she navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, living check to check. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. After seven years without him, Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.
Tomb Raider is slated to hit theaters March 16, 2018.
