Narcos is a series based on the rise of violent drug cartels, but apparently, producing the show is just as dangerous.
According to reports, a location scout for the Netflix show was recently shot to death while scouting for Season 4 of the hit series.
Carlos Muñoz Portal was killed on Monday (Sept. 11) in a violent region in central Mexico. He was 37 years old.
His car was found in a secluded area in San Bartolo Actopan, near the borders of Hidalgo state, which is believed to have the highest murder rate in the country. His death came just hours after he headed there for production photographs.
The circumstances surrounding his death are currently unknown.

According to Variety, there were 182 homicide cases in the month of July alone. That is a ratio of 12.2 for every 100,000 people.
Season 4 of Narcos will reportedly explore the origins of Mexico’s infamous Juarez cartel, following Season 3, which focused on on the rise and fall of Colombia’s Cali cartel and leads up to the shift of the drug wars to Mexico.
However, with Munoz’s murder, its unclear if production will continue in Mexico, where it would generate hundreds of jobs.
