Coffee chain Starbucks has announced the release of a cold-pressed espresso shot, available now at their Reserve Roastery location in Seattle, WA.
According to the brand, the shot comes from the development of a new, patent-pending cold extraction process, which produces “a concentrated, smooth tasting shot of cold-pressed espresso”.
Via Aqua Tamp Technology, which uses an ascending flow filtration system that is pressurized by cold water, the process allows for a precise release of flavor characteristics that results in a dense concentration of cold espresso. Starbucks says this releases a sweeter coffee flavor and smooth finish.
The shot is the beginning of a new selection of in-store menu options focused on cold espresso beverages.
“This new technique, which produces a dense shot of cold-pressed espresso, is the next step in our cold coffee journey and the perfect ingredient to design a menu of cold espresso or coffee options. We believe the opportunities are limitless,” said Kevin Johnson, Starbucks president and CEO.
