Ahead of Force Friday II, Disney has rolled out a new campaign dubbed “Find the Force” and have unveiled a new character: the BB-9E.
The character is a First Order BB-Unit droid, which everyone is calling the evil twin of BB-8. It will appear in the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi; and has been released across an entire range of The Last Jedi product lines. It can also be viewed in life-size AR form at participating retail locations hosting the “Find the Force” pop-up AR treasure hunt.
Using the “Find the Force” feature in the Star Wars App, fans can unlock an AR version of BB-9E on day one of the three-day initiative (Sept. 1-3), while getting a first look at the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi toys, collectibles, books, comics, apparel, home décor and more.
On Thursday (Aug. 31), director Rian Johnson revealed (via Twitter) that the BB-9E actually had a different name on set before deciding on its offficial name. It used to be called the BB-H8, which could sound like BB-HATE.
Just be thankful we didn't stick with his obscenely adorable on set nickname, BB-H8
