Following news Tuesday night (Aug. 22) that the Cleveland Cavaliers have completed a deal that will send Kyrie Irving to Boston, LeBron James has reacted.
He took the high road though. No slander or ill will, but praise for his now-former teammate on Twitter.
LeBron retweeted a short video posted by a fan that shows Irving’s No. 2 Cavs jersey, before a message is laid atop it. “THANK U SO MUCH,” it reads, along with a heart
James tweeted this video, adding this message: “That’s the only way to be to the kid! Special talent/guy! Nothing but respect and what a ride it was our 3 years together.”

After Irving met with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert last month and requested a trade, the team struck a deal with the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. For Kyrie, the Cavs get star Isaiah Thomas, forward Jae Crowder, center Ante Zizic and Brooklyn’s 2018 unprotected first-round pick.
Irving will return to Cleveland on October 17, when the Celtics take on the Cavs on the first night of the 2017-18 NBA season.
