Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Smith was arrested on Thursday (Aug. 17) on a felony assault charges, reports TMZ.
The 30-year-old NFL pro allegedly attacked his sister’s boyfriend during the early morning hours of July 4 in Pasadena, Calif., beating him and then stomping on his head.
Smith has been charged with one felony count each of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious injury. If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison.
Smith’s attorney Daniel Rosenberg tells ESPN that his client “maintains his innocence” and that he will plead not guilty.
The Raiders have yet to comment on the situation.
Smith signed a four-year deal with the Oakland Raiders in 2016, worth $40 million with $20 million guaranteed.
