Eight years after his life changed, the night assaulted then-girlfriend Rihanna in a fit of rage, Chris Brown offers a detailed account of what happened.

The singer opens up in a clip from his upcoming documentary, Welcome to My Life.

In it, Brown reveals that he and Rihanna's relationship was plagued by domestic violence even before the evening he was arrested. "There would be verbal fights. There would be physical fights, as well... I still love Rihanna but I’m just gonna be honest. We would fight each other. She would hit me. I would hit her, but it never was okay," he explained.

As he recalls their relationship, beginning with how they met and how their love blossomed, Brown says they things got so serious that they pondered marriage at one point. Bu,t Riri lost trust in him after he lied about one of his ex-girlfriends... and that's where things began to go left.

On the night he was arrested, Brown says that Rihanna got upset by this ex, who went to the same Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party they attended. On the way home, Rihanna found a text from the ex in Brown's phone, letting him know she would be attending.

This erupted into an argument, where Brown says Rihanna hit him before he struck her with a closed fist. "I punched her and it busted her lip," he recalls. "When I saw it, I was in shock, like, 'F*ck. Why the hell did I hit her?’ From there, she spits in my face, spits blood in my face, and it enraged me even more so it’s a real-on fight in the car."

From there, he says she grabbed him between the legs and he responded by biting her arm. Brown eventually pulled over his Lamborghini in Hollywood, she got out and screamed: "Help. He’s trying to kill me."

Later, he recalls seeing the bloody photo of Rihanna that circulated the internet. "Her lip was busted," says Brown. "She had a knot because I pushed her head up against the window. A lot of the times, I look back at that picture and I’m like, ‘That’s not me, bro.’ I hate it to this day. That’s gonna haunt me forever."
