It looks like an new leak has confirmed new details about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 smartphone.
Apparently, the leak comes directly from Apple… accidentally.
A firmware pre-release for the HomePod smart speaker actually included hidden details about several features the iPhone 8. Code sent to developers last week contained references to other products, including one codenamed D22, which is said to be the new iPhone that is due out in September of this year.
According to the code, the upcoming iPhone will include facial recognition that uses infrared technology in place of fingerprint scans.
I can confirm reports that HomePod’s firmware reveals the existence of upcoming iPhone’s infra-red face unlock in BiometricKit and elsewhere pic.twitter.com/yLsgCx7OTZ

The infrared is so the Face Unlock on the iPhone 8 can work in the dark/at night. Our earlier story detailing it https://t.co/SRLBsHoiij

Furthermore, there’s an image of what looks to be an iPhone with an almost completely edge-to-edge screen.
