After garnering backlash over comments she made about Philly people being “unattractive”, Amber Rose is backpedaling.
If you’re not following, here’s a quick brief. During a recent interview on the Drink Champs Podcast, Amber was discussing her struggles in South Philly growing up… and made a comment that riled people up.
“A lot of the people where I’m from aren’t traditionally attractive people. For me, being blessed with beauty, as beautiful women know, it’s a blessing and a curse. To grow up in such an area and be blessed with beauty, it was very difficult for me,” she said during the interview (verbatim).
After her comments struck a cord with people, especially women in Philly, Amber took to Instagram Stories to attempt to explain herself. “It’s not easy doing interviews and saying things the way you really want to articulate. Its kinda like when you send a text message to someone and they’re like, ‘Why do you have an attitude?’ I don’t have an attitude, but it just comes across that way,” she started.
“I wasn’t saying that’s how I felt. I was saying that’s how people treated me. That didn’t come off properly in the interview. I just watched a clip and I’m cringing, because I’m so not that girl,” Rose also added.
A TMZ cameraman caught up with Rose on Saturday night (July 29) and asked her about the controversy. “I never said anyone was ugly. I’m so frustrated. It makes me so sad, because I never said that,” she tried to explained. “What I meant was, as far as society’s standards of beauty, which I never felt like I was beautiful.”
