Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee was honored in Los Angeles earlier this week, when his hand imprints were cemented at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
“All I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Lee told the crowd at the ceremony. “I’ve always wondered: ‘Why is the bottom of your heart more important than the top of your heart?’ I thank you from my whole heart, and you’ve made this day certainly totally unforgettable, almost unbelievable.”
Despite the honor, it was bittersweet for Lee, because he lost his wife Joan earlier in the month, after nearly 70 years of marriage.
“I’ve been the luckiest man because I have had friends, and to have the right friends is everything,” Lee said. “People you can depend on, people who tell you the truth…. I have been lucky. I’ve been lucky to have a wonderful wife.”
