Tupac Shakur

Tupac’s relationship with Madonna has always seemed like an odd fit, no matter how long ago it was. Not much was known about their time together, but at some point, they obviously broke up.

In a recently unearthed prison letter, Pac explains why he broke up with Madonna… with the motivating factor being race.

“For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardize your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting,” he wrote. “But for me at least in my previous perception, I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was. I never meant to hurt you.”

Elsewhere in the later, Tupac admits that Madonna said some things, publicly, that hurt him… and it apparently caused a rift between them.

“An interview where you said, ‘I’m off to rehabilitate all the rappers & basketball players’ or something to that effect, those words cut me deep seeing how I had never known you to be with any rappers besides myself,” he said. “It was at this moment out of hurt & a natural instinct to strike back and defend my heart & ego that I said a lot of things.”

In a past interview with Vlad TV, Pac’s brother Mopreme Shakur said the relationship was never that serious… and they split on amicable terms. “You know how them entertainment relationships go. But, they both respected each other, so it ended cool. He never talked sh*t about her… not to me,” he said.

TMZ shared the letter, which has some sections blurred out. It will be up for auction for $100K, beginning July 19. Check it out here.
