Jay-Z’s attack on Kanye West on his 4:44 album had nothing to do with money issues related to Hov’s streaming service TIDAL, according to sources . Instead, Jay is still fuming over a rant Kanye went on during a stop on his “Saint Pablo Tour” last fall, where he took shots at Beyonce and claimed that Jay shut him out of his life.

Kanye helped push TIDAL hard early on, releasing his The Life of Pablo album in February 2016 exclusively on the platform. After its release, reports said the album helped boost subscribers, from around 1 million to 2.5 million… and Ye was supposed to get a bonus. He claims that never happened.

No one besides Hov knows why he lashed out at ‘Ye, but Jay has seen a lot of people come up in life and not go off the deep end. He’s made a lot of people millionaires and they handled it in stride; the same can’t be said for Kanye.

According to TMZ, sources close to Kanye say that he wasn’t in a good head space when he went on the rant that triggered this tension. “Kanye was days away from going to a psych ward for some really serious mental issues. We get why he [Jay] was upset, but give Kanye a break.”

Here’s a sample of a few bars Jay aimed at Kanye on his 4:44 album:

“I know people backstab you I felt bad too.  But this f*** everybody attitude ain’t natural.  But you ain’t a saint, this ain’t kumbaye.  But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye.  You gave him $20 million without blinkin’.  He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*** was he thinking’?  f*** wrong with everybody is what you sayin’.  But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.”
