When Michael Jordan signed his first professional contract, there was a clause that allowed him to participate in competitive off-season pickup games.
Jordan Brand refers to this as MJ’s “Love of the Game”, which is celebrated in this new special sneaker pack.
One of the most memorable games from his period was his famous UNC alumni games in 1986 and 1987. During the 1986 game between Tar Heel alumni, MJ wore a Chicago home colorway of the Air Jordan 2 that featured a never-before-seen detail — Carolina Blue on the heel. In the 1987 game, he sported a low version of the Jordan 2 in his alma mater’s team colors.
Now, the Air Jordan 2 returns to honor both games by combining the original 1986 PE 2 with the 1987 game date.
There’s also MJ’s time during the 1984 USA games, where he helped lead the USA men’s basketball team to a gold medal. During the games, he wore his favorite Converse model, the Fastbreak. To honor his the memorable performances, the Fastbreak returns in Carolina Blue.
The Jordan “2 That Started It All” pack releases June 28 at select retailers.
