Quarterback Derek Carr has finalized a contract extension with the Oakland Raiders for five years and worth $125 million, reports ESPN.
The 26-year-old will earn an average salary of $25 million per season, making him the NFL’s highest-paid player in terms of new money average. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck previously topped the list, averaging a $24.6 million salary.
In the deal, Carr will get $40 million fully guaranteed at signing. But, he also has a $30.2 million guarantee for injury only at signing.

Carr had a huge year with the Raiders last season, passing for 3,937 yards and 28 touchdowns with just six interceptions, en route to the Raiders first postseason appearance since 2002. However, he suffered a broken fibula in Week 16, forcing him to miss Oakland’s playoff loss to the Houston Texans.
This offseason, the Raiders were able to persuade running back Marshawn Lynch to come out of retirement to sign with the team.
With Lynch, Carr gets a serious running back after Latavius Murray left for the Minnesota Vikings in free agency. He will complement their passing team, which includes third year reciever Amari Cooper and veteran Michael Crabtree.
