The NFL and Adidas officially consummate their partnership, with the unveiling of the league’s 2017-18 season uniforms.
Unveiling during a launch party in Las Vegas on the eve of the 2017 NHL Awards and NHL Expansion Draft, the new ADIZERO Authentic NHL jerseys and uniforms were created for all 31 NHL teams. Adidas gives them an upgrade over previous versions by applying signature brand technology to redefine the fit and feel, while also offering lightweight construction.
“Specifically created for elite performance, we’ve designed the ADIZERO Authentic NHL jerseys to deliver advanced innovation and technical design for the world’s best hockey players,” said Dan Near, Head of adidas Hockey.
Adidas had three main goals when creating the new ADIZERO NHL uniforms: making it LIGHTER, COOLER, and STRONGER.
To make it lightweight, the jerseys feature new cresting materials and construction technology, reducing the crest weight by up to 46%, while a single layer perforated numbering system reduces number weight by up to 60%. Overall, Adidas was able to deliver a new jersey that is up to 19% lighter compared to the previous versions.
Each ADIZERO jersey also gets adidas’ Clima tech, making it more breathable and able to manage moisture. This, combined with a streamlined silhouette helps maximize air flow circulation, making it up to 133% more permeable than fabrics currently used on ice. This results in the athletes staying cooler while playing.
Lastly, Adidas has made the jerseys much stronger than previous iterations. According to the brand, they’ve upped the durability by 27% in burst testing and up to 72% tougher in abrasion testing.
The unveiling marks the beginning of a seven-year pact between the NHL and Adidas, which they announced back in 2015. Via he partnership, the Three Stripes takes over as the outfitter of the NHL’s on-ice uniforms, as well as an official supplier of licensed apparel and headwear, beginning with the upcoming 2017-18 season.
The new NHL x Adidas jerseys and apparel should be available in the coming months.
