President Donald Trump is under investigation by the FBI.

According to the Washington Post, the FBI’s special counsel is overseeing an investigation into Russia’s alleged role in the 2016 election, including whether or not Trump had any connection.

As previously reported, the President had received private assurances from then-FBI Director James B. Comey in January that he was not personally under investigation by the agency. However, that has changed since Comey’s firing.

Apparently, National Intelligence director Daniel Coats, NSA head Mike Rogers, and deputy Richard Ledgett have all agreed to be interviewed by Mueller’s investigators as early as this week. It’s unclear who else have been questioned by the FBI, if any.

In a statement, the NSA said it will “fully cooperate with the special counsel”.

Investigators are said to be looking into possible financial crimes among Trump associates as well, including money laundering, reports the New York Times. “The suspicion is that any cooperation with Russian officials would most likely have been in exchange for some kind of financial payoff, and that there would have been an effort to hide the payments, probably by routing them through offshore banking centers,” wrote the paper.

As usual, Trump took to Twitter to address the news, calling it a “phony story.”
