It’s that time again. XXL has officially unveiled its 2017 Freshman Class — the 10th anniversary of the Freshman issue.
While some are familiar, some may be new to readers, depending on where you’re from. Each pick is determined by XXL staff, following a debate and discussion with other industry tastemakers.
Without further adieu, this year’s Freshman Class includes: Bay Area singer/rapper Kamaiyah, who is signed to YG’s 4Hunnid Records; Bronx, New York rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, who created a buzz with his 2016 mixtape Artist; Philadelphia’s PnB Rock; Atlanta rapper MadeinTYO, who built a buzz with the 2016 single, “Uber Everywhere”; Atlanta’s Playboi Carti; Portland’s Aminé; Atlanta’s Kap G; Ventura, Calif.’s Kyle; Houston’s Ugly God; and buzzing Florida rapper and 10th Spot winner XXXTentacion.
The Freshman issue of XXL will hit newsstands on July 4.
However, before its release, fans can see all 10 artists hit the stage to perform for the XXL Freshman show at New York City’s PlayStation Theater on June 28. A Los Angeles show will follow on July 14 at The Novo.
