Following the announcement last month that Tom Brady is the cover athlete for Madden NFL 18, EA Sports delivers the first trailer for the franchise’s first-ever story mode.

Titled “Longshot,” the trailer offers a first look at Madden’s playable story mode, centered around a forgotten prospect named Devin Wade

He’s a former college star, who is returning to the gridiron after an unexplained absence. Voiced by JR Lemon, the story mode will follow Wade as he attempts to take one last shot at NFL stardom and to hear his name called on NFL Draft Day.

According to EA, the story mode will not replace franchise or career mode. And, you won’t run through a full calendar of NFL games, but instead, you will be able to do football drills and live out flashbacks as Wade.

“This is a story about getting to the NFL,” said Mike Young, creative director for Madden 18. “Our philosophy was a playable movie, versus, like, a career mode with cutscenes … It’s not just locker rooms and GM offices and sideline volatility — it is a lot about a person’s emotional journey away from the field.”

Madden 18 is slated to drop Aug. 25.
