LeBron James surpassed Michael Jordan during the Cavaliers’ Game 5 rout of the Boston Celtics on Thursday (May 25) to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer in the post-season.
After the game, King James spoke from the heart about what the accomplishment means to him during the post-game press conference. “First of all, I wear the number because of Mike. I think I fell in love with the game because of Mike… when you’re growing up and you’re seeing Michael Jordan, it’s almost like a God,” he said.
James’ humility through all this is a testament to his character; it’s not easy to stay humble when you’re the best player on Earth. “At the end of the day, for my name to come up in the discussion with the greatest basketball player of all time, it’s like, ‘Wow’, ” he added.
Even the King isn’t too big to laugh at himself en route to his seventh straight NBA Finals appearance, when he also admitted that he’s going bald… like Mike was. “I did pretty much everything that MJ did when I was a kid. I shot fadeaways before I should have. I wore a leg sleeve on my leg and folded it down so you saw the red part… I didn’t go bald like Mike, but I’m getting there.”
James’ Cavs will face the Golden State Warriors in the Finals for the third year in a row, fulfilling the prophecy pundits have been clamoring about since last year’s Finals.
